Villa Giusti Suman in Zugliano

Villa Giusti Suman is situeted on the “castle” hill (il colle “del Castello”) that dominates the village of Zugliano. The main facade is peculiar indeed, with its impressiveness and the slight movement of the various units that form it. On the pre-existing 15 century building, towards the end of the 17 century an anonymous architect designed this scenographic villa, which stands out for its central avantcorps with a triangular front, hosting the large hall. The villa also includes some cottages and the courtyard, wherefrom the beautiful landscape overlooking the plain can be admired. Inside, the main floor is completely frescoed and it consists in a large hall with scenes inspired to the Genesis and taken from the Vatican Loggias, and in four side rooms of a mannerist style, with fake architectural structures, landscapes and mythological scenes. Very interesting is the Sala dei Trionfi, commissioned towards the end of the 17 century by the Barbieri family and the ceilings, with their beams covered with painted paper. The authors of the painting cycle and of the rich facade decoration are uncertain; among the Veneto painters who worked here in 17 century, we would mention Antonio Vassillacchi, also known as the Aliense.
